MADISON, Wis., March 13, 2007 — NimbleGen Systems today announced that Dr. Leroy Hood, widely considered the “Father of Systems Biology,” has joined the Company’s Board of Directors. Dr. Hood will also chair NimbleGen’s Scientific Advisory Board.

Dr. Hood, co-founder and President of the Institute for Systems Biology, is recognized as one of the world’s leading researchers in molecular immunology, biotechnology and genomics. He holds an M.D. from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the California Institute of Technology. Beginning his professional career at CalTech, Dr. Hood and his colleagues pioneered several instruments, including the DNA sequencer, which revolutionized automated DNA sequencing and played a critical role in the mapping of the human genome. Dr. Hood holds 14 patents and has won several major awards for his contributions in medicine and biotechnology, including the 2004 Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) Award for Excellence in Molecular Diagnostics, the 2003 Lemelson-MIT Prize for Innovation and Invention, and the 2002 Kyoto Prize in Advanced Technology. Dr. Hood is one of just a few scientists (7 out of more than 6000) that are members of all three national academies - the National Academy of Science, the Institute for Medicine and the National Academy of Engineering.
