MADISON,
WI-July 23, 2002 - NimbleGen Systems, Inc., a closely held genomics
technology company, announced today the launch of the Company's
customized DNA microarray services, accessible through its website,
www.nimblegen.com.
"This
is the next step in NimbleGen's first phase of commercialization,
which immediately expands our potential relationships with academic,
biotechnology and pharmaceutical customers," commented Mike
Treble, President and CEO of NimbleGen. "NimbleGen's microarray
service is the logical complement to our recently announced genomics
production and service facility." NimbleGen Systems of Iceland,
LLC- utibu a Islandi (NGS-I) located in Reykjavik, Iceland, began
manufacturing custom DNA arrays and offering related services
in March 2002.
"With
the addition of NimbleGen's customized DNA microarray design services,
we have greatly enhanced our capability to produce high-quality,
high density custom DNA arrays and related services, faster and
more economically than our competitors for customers worldwide,"
commented David Cooper, MD, Ph.D., Sr. Vice President and Chief
Medical Officer.
"NimbleGen
now has the unique ability to support development of all phases
of DNA microarray technology for academic and corporate partners
involved in gene expression studies," said Steven Smith,
Vice President of Bioinformatics. "In addition, the Company
is able to offer customers assistance in the selection and placement
of unique gene sequences from their organism of choice and integrate
their unique array design into our array production process.
NimbleGen
Systems, Inc., develops next generation DNA array technologies
that shorten the time it takes to produce arrays from months to
hours. NimbleGen's Maskless Array Synthesis (MAS)
technology permits the Company to develop and manufacture custom
high density, highly reproducible DNA arrays, which substantially
improve the quality and data yield of DNA chips. Using flexible
digital micromirrors, the MAS system can create a wide variety
of designs and sizes based on each customer's needs quickly and
efficiently. Users are enabled to create their own high density,
custom designed DNA arrays in their laboratories, greatly accelerating
the rate of scientific research and discovery. The Company's core
business strategy is to supply both custom DNA arrays and the
systems that manufacture DNA arrays for academic, biotechnology
and pharmaceutical customers.
